[UC] Problem with network locations

Post by Krisantem »

Hello,
I have the same problem as the one mentioned in this post : https://forum-ultracopier.first-world.info/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=305

I use UltraCopier with Win 10 64-bit.
Files do not move to network location, but they move to network location shortcut folder in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts.

I found files in this location with WinDirStat because I moved a 20 GB folder to a network location. This folder disappeared from the source folder and it was not in the destination folder either. The partition containing the source folder showed the same size as when the 20 GB folder was in the source folder.

Thank you.

Hi,

I send you the debug repport and screen captures to show the problem.

To reproduce the bug, you have to copy or move a file from a folder to a network location.

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes, this problem only affects network locations and not network drives.

So, I also use network drives to avoid this problem.

Thank you.

Hi,

I found a way to see the path to this kind of special folder with Windows.

Open a network location with Windows Explorer.

Click on the address bar and the address to this special folder will be displayed.

Also, I noticed that this special folder contains a file named target.lnk which should point to the network location.

Thank you.

Hi,

I think one method of approach to correct this error would be to look in the target folder for the presence of the target.lnk file. If it is present, it would suffice to read this file to extract the path of the network location to which this file points.

I checked, this file can be opened with notepad and the path is there.

After that, all you have to do is copy or move files to the right network location.

This is an idea I had that would make Ultracopier completely reliable for all file transfers, if it can be implemented and work properly.

I would also like to point out to you that this same bug is present in Copy Handler that I had the opportunity to use.

This target.lnk file appears when viewing the contents of this special folder with the command prompt or PowerShell.
It can be opened with Notepad or a hex editor.

I send you an example of target.lnk :
